Dealer Lab
The Dealer Lab Tour app serves as a visitor’s companion through the General Motors Atlanta Innovation Center Dealer Lab.
GOALS
The ambition was to create a user-friendly and visually appealing mobile app. The app would serve as a companion to a visitor’s journey through the Atlanta Dealership Lab while making it enjoyable and educational about GM internal and external products while using audio and gamification.
APPROACH
The app was built in conjunction with the physical interior space layout and the signage designed to navigate through the space. Different rooms in the space were designated with the purpose of allowing a visitor to experience the journey of a customer:
* shopping for a vehicle at home (The Living Room)
* exploring various dealership applications (The Dealership)
* experiencing the vehicle through the myBrand app (Your Vehicle)
* interact with the app and vehicle on the floor
* schedule an appointment through the app
* the appointment is displayed live on a digital display in the form of a service lane tracker while a visitor waits in the waiting area of a dealership/service lane (The Service Lane)
GRAPHICS
Caring about the right balance of aesthetics and functionality, the illustrations and icons capture attention instantly and get seated in the minds of the users for a pretty long time. That’s the reason they were crafted with a sense of simplicity and playfulness in mind.
RESULTS
The UX of the app was carefully thought through and the UI was prepared in accordance with GM brand guidelines. We also made sure to keep the look and feel of the mobile application consistent with the GM brand signage in the space to create a single-brand effect and a unified overall visit to the Lab. A survey to collect visitor feedback at the end of the journey as a visitor exits the space indicates the completion of the visit and lets us know our impact. The app was released to the GM Company App Store September 2017.
